Hazel Tree Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEND school in Preston. This is a full-time position starting shortly after the Easter break and will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to become a permanent role after 12 weeks.

The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs including SEMH, ASD, and PMLD. Some pupils may display challenging behaviour, so the successful candidate will need to be patient, adaptable, and confident in supporting students with complex needs.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally. The role may involve working on a one-to-one basis with individual pupils or supporting small groups within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with additional needs
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
  • Support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs
  • Help create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
  • Encourage pupil engagement and promote independence where possible
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD, or PMLD is beneficial
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
